Cheryl Strayed, author of ‘Wild,’ headlines HomeWord Bound, a fun-filled evening to benefit local affordable housing
Beloved best-selling author Cheryl Strayed tops the list of fantastic Northwest writers who will be on hand at Community Partners for Affordable Housing’s 16th annual fundraiser “HomeWord Bound: An Event of Literary Proportions,” on April 11, 6-10 p.m., at the Oregon Zoo, 4001 SW Canyon Road, Portland.
Featured speakers at HomeWord Bound 2014 are:
- New York Times Best Selling author Cheryl Strayed, whose memoir “Wild” was chosen as Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 first pick, and is currently being made into a movie starring Reese Witherspoon.
- Popular writer and arts, music, and TV journalist Peter Ames Carlin, whose latest book “Bruce” is widely acclaimed as the definitive biography of iconic musician Bruce Springsteen.
- Author Cari Luna, whose debut novel “The Revolution of Every Day” (about a community of tenement squatters in New York City in the 1990s), was chosen one by The Oregonian as one of the Top 10 Northwest books of 2013.
Special guest Dan Murphy, founding general manager of The Broadway Rose Theatre Company in Tigard, will once again perform as Master of Ceremonies.
CPAH will also present the Friend of Affordable Housing Award to Metro Councilor Craig Dirksen.
Community Partners for Affordable Housing provides safe and sustainable affordable housing along with support and skill-building services for individuals and families in Tigard, Beaverton and SW Portland.
HomeWord Bound tickets are $85, a table of 10 for $850; reservations required. The evening includes dinner, a silent auction, and author signings with books available for purchase.
