Award-winning NW authors, Oregon’s sixth Poet Laureate headline HomeWord Bound, an evening to benefit local affordable housing
CPAH’s 17th Annual HomeWord Bound fundraiser set for April 10 at The Oregon Zoo
Award-winning authors Smith Henderson, Lois Leveen, and Oregon’s sixth Poet Laureate Paulann Petersen, top the list of Northwest writers who will be on hand at Community Partners for Affordable Housing’s 17th annual fundraiser “HomeWord Bound: An Event of Literary Proportions,” on April 10, 6-10 p.m., at the Oregon Zoo.Featured speakers at HomeWord Bound 2015 are:
- Smith Henderson, whose debut novel, (“Fourth of July Creek”), has garnered wide acclaim nationally, was nominated for an Oregon Book Award, was named one of the New York Times 100 Notable Books of 2014 and named No. 3 on the Oregonian’s Top 10 Northwest Books of 2014. He is also an award-winning short story writer, and he works at Wieden+Kennedy, where he contributed to the 2012 Emmy-nominated “Halftime in America” Super Bowl Commercial. www.smith-henderson.com
- Oregon’s Sixth Poet Laureate Paulann Petersen (“Understory,” and a poem in the recently-published anthology “The Knotted Bond: OR Poets Speak of their Sisters”) is known and loved throughout the state. She is a former Stegner Fellow at Stanford University, recipient of Oregon Literary Arts' 2006 Holbrook Award, and she teaches poetry workshops at a variety of colleges, libraries and writers’ conferences. www.paulann.net
- Lois Leveen (“Juliet’s Nurse”) is an award-winning author of literary historical fiction, a former faculty member at UCLA and Reed College, and she gives talks on history and literature nationwide and internationally. Her work has appeared in the NYTimes Huffington Post, and Wall Street Journal, among others. Her debut novel, “The Secrets of Mary Bowser,” was chosen by The Oregonian as one of the Top 10 Northwest books of 2012. www.loisleveen.com
Washington County Commissioner Dick Schouten will be the recipient of CPAH's Friend of Affordable Housing Award.
Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH), provides safe and sustainable affordable housing along with support and skill-building services for individuals and families in Tigard, Beaverton and SW Portland.
HomeWord Bound tickets are $85, a table of 10 for $850; reservations required. The evening includes dinner, a silent auction, and author signings with books available for purchase.
